Two More Trails Ready

Two more trails are ready at Lynch's. The longish trail from the top to the last trail and the super-short step trail are all cleared. I'm going back in this morning to try to get one (or maybe two) more miles done before the rains get here and bring all that to a grinding halt.

My goal is to have as much as possible ready in a week to do some sort of kick-off-remember-how-nice-these-woods-used-to-be kind of ride for you all. It's been several years since there was any mountain bike traffic out here, and it'd be nice to see it get some use.

The county council has been debating for a year now about logging and clearing the whole thing in order to meet a short-term deficit problem. There's been a grass-roots group to show council just how much people care about keeping it as it is and available for use by folks. The good news is that the most vocal proponent for closing/clearing/logging was defeated in the last election.

At any rate, it's not all for a selfish (30 seconds out my garage door) reasons that I'm getting the woods back into shape. It's a valuable asset to this town, and I hate to see it get wasted. So when I get it all done, look for some sort of invite to celebrate with me on a couple of laps.

We need to start posting "Towns Hero Clint Harshaw" all over town. Or in Newberry "Héroe de pueblos Clint Harshaw". You are the man. I'll be up there Saturday. I have a friend coming down from Ashville and he said he hasn't ridden there in years.

Clint,
I am going to get my dad's chain saw over the holidays. I believe it has a 24" bar. I am off from dec 22 to jan 2. So some time in there i will come back up and cut those trees for you (and all of those who love the trail). I rode there sunday and there are a lot of trees down. If you want to give me a call toby has the #. If you get them cut before then just let me know and I'll bring the bike insteed of the saw.

Good work on the trails. I will try and get out there sometime soon.

If we ever need to get a petition going to save the woods let us know. That's how we got Paris open to night riding . . .

I've been cutting the hell out of some trees. There is still one place I know of that is still completely blocked, I need to ride the trail and mark it with the GPS.
Then it will all be cleared of obstrutions.

Monty, thanks a bazillion for the work on the big timber that was down. Toby was up here with me today, and it totally made my day to come over the ridge trail and see the big honking log cut out of the way.

The day kept getting better as we saw more of what all you'd done.

Thank you very much for all your help. I sure do appreciate it.

Toby and I put in the better part of 7 hours in there today, clearing out a lot of the inner trail. We're about down to the deep creek crossing, and will just have the powerline section after that to finish it out.
