2008 New Years Day Ride

2008 NYDR (Updated 1/4/08)

When: 1/06/08

Where: Ballentine DMV

Well How Far: 66ish (ballpark 66.7 miles)

What Time: Roll out 10 A.M

Why: Because the Sunday after New Years most folks will be back in town from their holiday getaways and the hangovers will be history. Besides it will give everyone time to install their new bike parts in time for the ride. Please remember that this is NOT A RACE so get that ego shit out of your system before you show up. Thanks

What History: This will be something like 7th annual - Not sure I've lost count. This route will be a traditional loop around Lake Murray in a clockwise fashion. This will be a self supported ride. So plan for one stop. Stay tuned in here for more info to come. Feel free to respond.

Update 1/4/08 11:27am
Looks like the loop will be counter clockwise this year, new loop same idea. The shortest possible route without all the sketchy highway sections. Planning on hitting the station at the traffic circle around the hwy 391 & 378 area. Something like 36ish mile point. Looks like good weather for the ride.

Back in Action

Rumor around the computer fire is the infamous blue socks will be dusted off and back in action for this weekends short track race. Race this week will be in the dark. Guaranteed to be a whole lot of blue on one person. Good thing it'll be in the dark.

Race 4 of Bank of NC Short Track Series Saturday (12/1). Info here, no sense needed apply within.

Update on this weekend's race - Harrell's Team finishing positions in the Sport Men 40+ Clint Harshaw took 2nd place in a tight race for the overall lead in the series. In the Expert race Jamie Hyatt takes another win on the series and Toby P finds the podium in third.

Lynch's Update

Toby and I put in some maintenance work on Lynch's Woods today. Most of the trail is clear now, but there are still some patches that need a little work. I'm headed back in tomorrow for some more touch-up and then get in a couple of loops on the Paragon.

The erosion-prone power line climb got some attention. We're working on a re-route around that that would increase the length of the climb, add a big sweeper around the rim of a natural bowl on the power line, duck back into the woods at the top of the climb and have a really fun section before joining the trail. If you're out that way, look for the flagging at the top of the climb and try it out up to the power line. Anyhow, it's going to take some time and some sweat, but we hope it will both avoid the erosion altogether and be more fun that it is right now.

We're also going to work on a bridge over the small creek crossing before the rock section. The really tough creek crossing is going to be a challenge because it needs either a curve/corner in the middle of it, or it needs to be around 20 feet long, and will probably require some support in the middle. It's definitely going to take some planning.

Interested in MTB ride

Anyone interested in a MTB ride at Harbison on Sat (11/25) in the am?

Cola, Cross and Short Track

Everybody, Anybody, Somebody. . .

Edit:

Meet at Harrell's at 8:00 Saturday morning for a ride at Lynch's.
I will leave a time for Manchester on Sunday later.

I will be in town again this weekend looking for some good rides.

Does anyone know if there are any cross races in Columbia, Greenville, Charlotte area? I want to try this cross sport. I have heard it is painful and I now have the almost right machine for it. . .

Charlotte Short Track: I am wondering what kind of course this is? Can I run my slicks and 32X15 gearing to smash the field? Are there lots of roots or is is mostly rolling?

I am ready for some races!

Urban Night Adventure

Hey guys! How many of you are planning to race up at Fork Shoals in 10 days at the NC/SC State RR Championships?
Since there are combined categories, I thought we might try some "race tactics" or something. Maybe get Toby in a break... or whoever is willing, really. I might know someone who can hand up drinks, too.

If YOU post on here, PLEASE READ!

If YOU post on here, PLEASE READ!

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Please take note that E-Designs will be going live with Harrells Bicycle World’s World Wide Web page version 1.0 very soon.

As we are trying hard to stay community oriented, we have a link set up from the website to this BLOG. What does that mean? It means that this BLOG will be representing the Harrell’s riding community and probably receiving quite a bit more traffic. So we just want to make sure that we think about representing Paul Harrell and his business appropriately when we make posts.

Neither Paul nor I think there has been a problem, we just wanted to make everyone aware of what is coming aboard.

I am also calling out for some information and pictures for those of you who post here on the BLOG. Please leave a comment under this post with the following information:

A list of all the bikes you own and ride.
Pictures of the bikes you own and ride. The best way to get us these pictures is to send them in an email to webmaster@e-designme.com. We will also need your written or verbal consent that you allow us to publish and post pictures of you and your bikes on the Harrell’s website.

If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to leave a comment and I will answer them the best I can.

Thanks for your time and courteousness,

Jonathon

Sunday MTB Ride 8am

Sunday 6/17
Meet time 8am
Harbison Front Lot
Distance to be determined
Come one come all, bring your mtb one gear or many gears no one counting.

Mt. Mitchell

Hey everybody,

Here are the awsome results from last Monday's Assault on Mt. Mitchell:
(full results at http://www.freewheelers.info/assault.html)

The weather was a moderate 70º - 75º from bottom to top, a bit muggy, and with a slight breeze. The sun barely poked through the grey clouds that blanketed the skies all day, and of course, the last 5 miles were through a dense, rolling fog.

Finishing 108th, Gabe rocketed up the mountain in a time of 6:10:00 - congrats Gabe!

Finishing 161st, I came up next with a respectable time of 6:27:05 - which is 0:02:32 faster than Lynn's best time, so now he has to ride again (little side bet we had going).

Rounding out the top 25%, Kevin came in 250th with a very good time of 6:55:02.

All three of us cracked the 7 hour mark, and that's great!
If anyone else came up, and I didn't write in your time, just post a reply or email me.

Good job everyone!

HBW Team Training Ride! (again)

For all those who I have NOT already emailed, called, and generally pestered to no end: this Saturday, May 12 is the official "HBW Team Training Ride" (for road racing). Hosting this event is what's giving us an official standing with USAC - gives us our team name.

We'll be meeting between 8:30 and 9:00am at Caesar's Head State Park (just north of Greenville) to ride 80-100 miles in the mountains... slowly. It's open to anyone with a USAC race license, so anyone who wants to come, just email me and let me know: pietakay@hotmail.com. We'll have rolling SAG support and lots of pictures.

This ride is "Rain or Shine," so come prepared.

Lynch's Woods Volunteer Day - Sunday May 13??

Hi folks:

Can we all check our calendars to see about getting together early on Sunday, May 13 at Lynch's Woods for a volunteer trail maintenance day? I've got an 18" bar chain saw, loppers, shovels, leaf blower, hedge trimmer.

I worked yesterday getting the latest trees out of the way, and all is clear timber-wise, except for one log that I can't remember where the darn thing is.

Probably the biggest thing needed is the new vegetation is closing in over the trail and it needs some discrete cutting back. The limbo log on the first trail after the prologue is going to take a bigger saw than what I've got.

I can supply a cookout and refreshing beverages for everybody too.

Clint
Check the date fellows don't forget about yo momma

Stumpjump Race This Sunday

Who's up for doing the Stumpjump race this Sunday? I'm going up for the "You kids get off my lawn" class at 10:30 -- and have room for 4 more riders and bikes in the truck. I need to get back by mid-afternoon, though, so I can't stay for the Expert stuff. If anybody's interested in carpooling, let me know.

Maybe we can Jed to come on out with the Jittery Joe's traveling cafe..

So everybody is talking about doing this thing. I cannot decide as I really want to limit my races this year. These 24 hour loopy things tend to get kind of pricey as well. If I decide to do it I am going solo, I just don't feel like putting in the cooperation to making the team thing work. Plus if I ride solo, I don't effect anyone else's race. So there you have it. Now discuss and ride hard.

2007 Harrells Kit

Come see Paul at the shop to get your new colors for the '07 season. In stock bibs, shorts, jersey, vest, jackets and thermal jersey. New for this season - arm warmers and knee warmers. Check on sizes, shorts seem to be cut small and the arm warmers cut big. Kit looks very professional out on the road & trail. Support your local shop and show your colors.

Thanks Paul

No Excuse For No Base 4-15-2007

Alright Monty this one's for you. This is the last chance for Team Tripping On Lactic Acid to get ready for the PMBAR.

So off we go to Harbison for a medium intensity 5 hour ride. I am hoping to keep it right at 10 mph so we can get close to 50 miles in. I know there will be some stops as well so plan for as many hours as your kitchen pass can afford.

LATE EDIT!!!!!!!!! Because of the forecast, we are riding Harbison around 9:15 on Saturday and Manchester at 8:00AM on Sunday.

Where: Manchester
When: 4/15/2007 8:00 AM
Why: Because we can
Who: You know you all need to
How: With your bikes duh, for me: one gear so try and keep up

Mountain Goat Epic 4/7/2007

Enduro freaks abound. Look out, Mr. Goat Epics has organized a ride involving some pretty hefty mileage. Approximately 50 miles with 11 grand of climbing.

I will most likely be pulling the caboose on this ride and I look forward to it. We are starting at the Black Mountain trailhead at 9:00 for those interested. If you are truly interested and you want more info, let me know.

Lynches Woods on Saturday 7th?

Since the temp is going to drop this weekend, I'm considering getting a good cup of Joe and heading up for a jaunt to Lynches for a hammer session on the mtn bike.

Edit: Toby and I are meeting at the Publix Parking lot (at the end of Broad River) at 8:40. We are going to head up to Newberry for about 2.5 hrs of riding. I can take one more. Give me a buzz if you want to go or leave a message on this thread. I'll check it in the morning.
Jamie

Any takers to car pool?

I would like to get there fairly early so we can get back.

Let me know!

Saturday Road Ride, 7:30 a.m.

Once again, an early training road ride is planned for this Saturday, 7:30 a.m. Leaving out of the parking lot of O'leary Orthodontics beside DFMS, on Old Tamah Rd. We had a really good ride last week. Phil Austin, a seasoned CAT 2 racer, has moved into the area and came out to ride with us.

This is not an all out hammer session; however, there will be times/areas that we lay the smack down if we all feel up to it. We will NOT leave anyone behind and that is not our intention. The route is about 50 miles. We usually get back to the Parking lot around 10:30 or so. By leaving early, we can get back to do other "stuff" around the house.

Join us if you can. The bigger the group, the more time we have to rest right?

Which Race, Two Choices?

Let's start getting a head-count for the upcoming mtn bike races:

We have the one in our own backyard, "Race to the River" on April 22nd.

Or, a bigger, more competitive "Tiger Rag" on the same day.

Obviously, we could race here, but would we just be racing ourselves? No fun in that...

I may even NOT shave my legs for that one!

Assault on My Chamois

I don't figure I will get any hits this week since this is the new official roaditude site.

I will be in Cola this weekend, riding Saturday and Sunday. I am thinking Imight make a trip to FATS one of those days. The other will probably be MANchester.

I will post up times and what not as the week goes along.

Ok I guess good luck to the roadies this weekend. Pretend like you are on the dirt and pedal hard or something.

Edit: So FATS is closed until next week. Whoops. I am still up in the air as to where I am riding tomorrow(saturday). Maybe Lynch's, maybe Manchester. If anyone wants to ride leave me a note.

Paul and I are hitting Manchester for sure on Sunday. I am guessing around 8:00 but I will post a confirmation tonight or tomorrow.

Saturday Road Ride 7:30a.m.

Hear ye, Hear ye,

The powers that be have decided that 7:30 shall be the time. Not 6:30, not 8:30. The Seventh hour and 30th minute in the morning shall be the time that riding shall begin. Be thou wrong if you show up at any hour other than 7:30a.m. (ok...way too much Monty Python and the Holy Grail...sorry!) (The "Holy Hand Grenade" scene)

Saturday Road Ride

Come join us on a longish road ride on Saturday morning 7:30 or 8:00. (I'll post the definite time when we nail it down) The route will be in the 50-60 mile range down to Peak, Pomaria, and then over to Little Mountain. Those feeling a bit sassy are more than welcome to ascend the infamous "goat track", where you will see not one goat but at the top you may see a "yak"...just don't get it on our top tube!

We will meet at Brian O'leary's office parking lot (beside DF Middle).

Hairy legged people and those that show up in mtn bike shoes will be allowed a 10 minute head start.

Lynch's woods @ 5:00 3/15/2007

Join me if you can.

Peace.

Wednesday, March 07, 2007

Have you ridden the mountains, Ever?

A big group of dedicated masocists are headed to the woods this weekend. We will be leaving from the North Mills Campground area riding from 8:30 - 2. If you want more details, give me a shout.

Why do I even post these here anymore?

Thursday, March 01, 2007

Have you ridden your bike lately?

This weekend I will be in Cola. I might head out for a lap at Harbison on Saturday but it will depend.

Definitely doing Manchester on Sunday ~9:00. Chime in if you wanna ride.

Peace.

Have a good one tomorrow -- Sunday's weather doesn't look good at all, so get out while you can.

New Berries

Wipe your tears and leave your tissues at home. Russ is gone Toby, your going to have to just face reality and realize that you will never learn his super secret traning techniques.

A small group is meeting at Lynces around 8:45 and rolling at 9 Saturday (1/27/2007) morning.

I can't wait to see all the hard work you folks have put in out there.

Peace.

Farewell to Russ & LeRyiah

Harrell's will miss the company of two great friends, Russ and LeRyiah. They are heading to upstate New York to start a new avenue of their lives together. We all wish them the best of luck in their future and safe travels in their journey. If you get the chance to stop by the shop and tell them good bye soon.

So, the mountain boy is going country this weekend. Who is riding and where? I was thinking FATS, or Lynches or Manchester.

Early on Saturday and mid-morning on Sunday. Anybody down? Don't be scared, I am not as fast as all the hype says I am.
